I struggle with this.
Having been a US Marine, having taken an oath to defend the country, it’s constitution, and it’s people, the right to bear arms is foundational, and I often thought that I’d go out in a blaze of patriotic glory when the BATF comes to take my guns away.
Now I have a family. A wife and two girls who don’t share my convictions and would live out their lives without a husband and a daddy just because I stood on principle.
The USMC has a creed I agree with: God, Country, Corps–and in that order. I see our country being led by corrupt politicians, and the populace that has given authority so that they can remain and become more bound by the greed of the powerful few. While a Marine, I used to struggle with what I would do (morally and in terms of following orders) if I had been placed under the command of a UN official or officer or force. When the country decides to put our armed forces under the command of a foreign power, loyalty to the force diminishes. When selfish, ignorant people put the country under the authority of ignorant, godless and greedy leaders, who then want to give away our power and soverignty as a nation, patriotism diminishes.
Thank you God, that you are all powerful, completely sovereign, the embodiment of good, love, truth and light. I am now a Kingdom warrior.
I could see myself laying down my life for another citizen, Marine, and with with the right leadership, maybe even my country, but the circumstances would have to align with the core values of the Kingdom of God. Service and sacrifice are only morally demanded (in my life) when they are motivated by love and selflessness. I am no longer willing to give authority to unworthy overlords, be it in the market, the service, the government, or the church.
As for revolution:
Eph 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
So to answer the title question: Not so much.
I have given my country nearly 4 years of service and they had the chance to use my life up in Desert Storm, and at that time, I would have been honored to die in physical battle.
I gave the NRA $700 for a lifetime membership 12 years ago and $50 that I really couldn’t afford last month to bring closure to this issue, not to mention the other financial and politial support over the years. They will always ask for more money to keep the tide from turning agains freedom-loving, law-abiding patriots like me, but it is time for me to lay down my arms, and let someone else pick them up and fight the battle of politics.
I now serve in a force where I will never be disarmed, run out of ammo, or be asked to do something against my core values, because my core values are defined by the very nature of the Word, the Lord of Hosts, Jesus Christ… the one who conquered the sin of the entire world by submitting to death on a cross, by a people who didn’t understand, and a government who listened to the masses who could only blindly chant out of their ignorance and guilt, “crucify him”.
